I undertook advanced research in International Relations (IR), conducted independent research on critical security studies under the supervision of assigned senior researchers and wrote a research monograph of about 80,000 words on a state-society security relations in Africa with the topic: Subaltern Securitization: The Use of Protest and Violence in Postcolonial Nigeria
In the study, I analyzed why and how ordinary people use protest and violence as instruments of political communication and securitization to engage the state where speech is either lacking or ineffective
The study contributes to securitization theory literature and throws light on the governance of security in postcolonial contexts
In addition to conducting this research, which was examined by Rita Abrahamsen, I taught security and politics comprising technology use at the Swedish Defence University, Stockholm, Sweden during this period of research.
